Strategic Goals and Provincial Performance Indicators 1999/00



Carleton Strategic Goals:

1. Promote Carleton's unique identity as a research-intensive university and national leader in the study of public affairs and management and the study of high technology, offering outstanding programs in both undergraduate and graduate studies in the major disciplines of the Arts and Social Sciences, and Science and Engineering.


2. Increase the amount of external funding for research.


3. Increase undergraduate enrolments in a manner consistent with the continuing increase in the quality of the student body.


4. Increase the number of Honours students as a proportion of total undergraduate degree students.


5. Increase retention rates in all undergraduate programs.

6. Increase graduation rates in all academic programs.


7. Maintain the current ratio of graduate enrolment relative to undergraduate enrolment (l:7).


8. Enhance the first year experience in the B.A. through the introduction of small group seminars.


9. Maintain the financial viability of the University.



Provincial Performance Indicators:

Beginning in the 1999-2000 academic year, the province of Ontario (through the Ministry of Education and Training's new OSAP policy) is requiring all post-secondary institutions to provide access to three provincially determined measures regarding graduate placement rates, OSAP loan default rates and graduation rates.

Graduation and default rates have been calculated by the Ministry of Education using existing data sources while employment rate data was collected through a graduate survey conducted by Ontario universities.
