RETENTION
Institutional Goal:
Increase retention rates in all undergraduate programs.
Increase graduation rates (A Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Performance Indicator)
Commentary:
The tables show the status of students one and two years later and historic continuation and graduation rates.
For new full-time first year students in 2000, the proportion who are no longer at Carleton a year later has been steadily
dropping and currently stands at 14.9%. (Counting all first year students, new and returning, the proportion rises to 20.8%.)
Of the 2000 entering cohort of new full-time first year students, 68.9% progressed to second year level.
For new full-time first year students in 1999, the proportion who are no longer at Carleton two years later has also been
declining and now stands at 28.3% (33.0% counting new and returning students).
The seven-year graduation rate for students starting out in 1994 is 50.4% compared to 47.8% for students entering Carleton
the year before. All other factors being equal, this percentage would have increased to 61.0% if the student body of 1994
had resembled (in terms of entrance average, program mix, home region (in Ontario) and sex)) that of 2000.
