Troubleshooting Guide
- System
Requirements
Access to Internal Data Cubes is only available to CUNET account
holders and has been tested to work directly with Windows Clients using
Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari.
- Note for Macintosh and Linux
Users
Users can access the Public Cubes using available browsers but will
experience difficulties accessing the Internal Cubes due to account
authorization issues. A workaround is available but requires OIRP
intervention. If you intend to access the Internal Cubes from a Macintosh
or Linux system please contact OIRP (3617).
- Note
for Firefox Users (All systems)
To access Carleton University
Internal Data Cubes (restricted access) follow these steps:
- Go
to your Firefox address bar and type about:config
This will bring up the internal config editor,
which allows you to set up properties that influence Firefox's behavior.
(On newer versions of Firefox you will need to click the
“I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.)
- Look for the preference key
named network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris
(an easy way to do this is to type ntlm
into the filter box at the top)
Set that key's value (double-click on the name) to a comma separated list
as follows:
opas2,opas2.carleton.ca
- Note for On-Campus Users
(Windows XP)
- If you are prompted for the
User Name/Password combination from an on-campus computer it is likely
that your computer has not been set-up successfully to use NTLM Version 2
authentication in all situations (NTMLv2 is the current Windows
authentication method used to connect to CUNET accounts). Users without
'Administrative privileges' on their computer will need to contact the
CCS Help Desk (3700) though all users are encouraged to contact the Help
Desk for assistance. Users with Administrative privileges users can setup
their computer to use NTLMv2 by following the steps outlined in this
document: setup-ntlmv2.pdf
- Note for Off-Campus
Users
- Access to the OIRP Internal
Cubes requires a VPN connection see: Remote
Access in accordance with CCS policy for access to university
computers from off-campus.
- Once the VPN connection is
established, you may access your CUNET computer via Remote Desktop.
- Windows 7/Vista and XP (with
NTMLv2) home users may access the Cubes directly from their home
computers (once the VPN connection is established).
- You may be prompted for a User
Name/Password combination – you should enter your CUNET user name
and password – the user name must be entered in the form: cunet\your-user-name
- If you are prompted repeatedly
for the User Name/Password combination then it is likely your computer is
not setup for NTLMv2 – follow the steps in: setup-ntlmv2.pdf
- Need help?
If you have followed the previous steps and still cannot access the
internal cubes. Please contact CCS Help Desk (ext. 3700) for assistance.
